Ear Candy In The City: Lady Gaga “Born This Way” Video Premiere (Part 1)

After the hot-cold reception of Lady Gaga’s new single “Born This Way” by nearly everyone older than 20 years old because they remember Madonna’s “Express Yourself” and the similarities of the two tracks. Then there is the controversy Lady Gaga caused by claiming it’s a “Gay (Rights) Anthem” before it was even released. Obviously the song was written with her queer fans in mind; with such lyrics as, “don't be a drag, just be a queen” and “no matter gay, straight or bi, lesbian, transgender life, I'm on the right track baby, I was born to survive,” it is bound to be playing at every PRIDE event around world.

Now more controversy to come with today’s premiere of the 1st video for “Born This Way”; and the 2nd coming out soon will be a more “stripped-down version of the song” according to Lady Gaga herself, with the proceeds going to an anti-bullying charity. As much as I occasionally feel a little anti-gaga on occasions she always seems to bring me around when she does things like this. It’s hard not to like someone who fights for your cause.

So what’s my take on the new 7 minute video written by Lady Gaga, directed by fashion photographer Nick Knight, and choreographed by Laurie Ann Gibson? It's a smörgåsbord with a bit of everything all mixed into it. First all the references to pop icons, both alive and dead tossed in – like Alexander McQueen (his final fashion collection), Michael Jackson (white gloves), Rick Genest (aka Zombie Boy and her as Zombie Girl with pink hair… P!NK?!? ...hum? Could that be yet another reference… nah.) and Madonna (with tooth gap included and multiple similarities to past dance moves/videos). Even recognizable film scenes were thrown into this mix from the opening that feels a little like “Labyrinth” with the unicorn (or is it about Charlie?) and graphics which smoothly transitions into the first “Superman” movie with the clear cube arrival of the “Mother Monster” in this short film about rebirths in the “multiverse” and then from “Sin City” you have the awesome black and white shooting scene and even some scenes from the great 1927's expressionist German film “Metropolis” were featured (if you haven’t seen the movie rent it).

Aside from Rick Genest, there is plenty representation of various body modifications and body alterations throughout the video, including her wearing the prosthetics she has been wearing on her face and shoulders lately to all her public appearances.

One of my favorite parts is when she makes gesters of jerking off the tosses it to the side which could be a little self-reference to the rumors she’s a hermaphrodite but with a little Madonna-esque “Fuck You!” mixed into it. LOVE IT!

TOO Sick To Write Tonight

I had all the intensions to write about the Lady Gaga weekend. But I’m too sick to write for long. I’m too stuffed up to stay up and need some serious rest. But I’m hoping tomorrow I’ll be feeling better enough. Hope you guys are having a Happy V-Day!

How “Hot” is Rick Genest?

Before I start this entry I feel it’s necessary to explain what exactly we are going to talk about. According to Wikipedia: “Body modification (or body alteration) is the deliberate altering of the human body for aesthetic or non-medical purpose, such as sexual enhancement, a rite of passage, denoting affiliation, trust and loyalty, religious reasons, shock value, and self-expression. [source] It can range from the socially acceptable decoration (e.g., pierced ears in many societies) to the religiously mandated (e.g., circumcision in a number of cultures), and everywhere in between. Body art is the modification of any part of the human body for spiritual, religious, artistic or aesthetic reasons.” 

But what about when someone takes these alterations to complete extremes? How do you know when too much is too much? And can this all be sexy? Rick Genest, know as “Zombie Boy” to all is fan, was the main focus of Nicola Formichetti’s video and the show for Thierry Mugler Men's Fall/Winter 2011/2012 Fashion Show last week in Paris. I shared this yesterday “Ear Candy In The City” because it has the remix of Lady GaGa’s “Scheiße” which is super cool. Rick Genest has his body covered in tattoos and is consider by many fans to be a sex symbol. What do you think?

Ear Candy In The City: Scheiße F**kin’ Perfect!!

This morning I want to share with you two videos that have been playing on my computer all weekend, full blast, since finding them on Friday. The first one I came across on VEVO in the mid-afternoon and found that the controversial images against suicide/cutting were well as the song’s title "F**kin’ Perfect." This track is P!NK’s latest single which encourages everyone to accept each other for their trueselves and the video drives the message home by reminding us that we are not alone in our feelings of not fiting in. That when we stop to value our trueselves we come out winning in end and finding our way to our own happiness which does not always conform to norms. Hum… I wonder if that’s why gays love her? Enjoy the video I have enjoyed it all weekend.




Lady GaGa + Thierry Mugler/Nicola Formichetti + Rick Genest = “Anatomy of Change” [featuring “Scheiße (Remix)” reportedly from Lady GaGa’s upcoming album “Born This Way” due out in May]

This black & white stunningly light & shot short directed by Nicola Formichetti features beautiful images of Rick Genest (aka ZombieBoy), Thierry Mugler Men's Fall/Winter 2011/2012 Fashion Show last week in Paris, and the remix of Lady GaGa’s “Scheiße” (and “it should be noted that this version of the song is missing the chorus - on purpose,” according to Perez Hilton). Really this is missing something? Could have fooled me with the amazing sound, but then again the images really added to the full effect of wholeness.
